The Senator representing Kwara Central in the National Assembly, Mallam Saliu Mustapha, has expressed grief over the demise of former Chief of Staff to Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Retired Major General Abdullahi Mohammed Adangba, who passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, November 5th, 2025 at the age of 86.
In a statement personally issued to journalists in Abuja, Senator Mustapha who is the Turaki of Ilorin described the death of one of the finest military officers ever produced by the Ilorin Emirate as devastating and a colossal loss to the Emirate, Kwara State, and Nigeria as a whole.
He recalled the sterling contributions of the late Major General Adangba to Nigeria’s military and civil administrations, noting his exemplary service as Chief of Staff to Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo (1999–2007) and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua (2007–2008), National Security Adviser to General Abdulsalami Abubakar (1998–1999), Director-General of the National Security Organization (1976–1979) under General Obasanjo’s military administration, and Military Governor of the then Benue-Plateau State (July 1975–February 1976).
Senator Mustapha praised the late General for his professionalism, patriotism, and unwavering dedication to national service, describing him as a statesman whose wisdom and integrity left a lasting imprint on Nigeria’s governance and security architecture.
While commiserating with the Kwara State Government, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari CFR, the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), the people of Adangba community, and the entire Ilorin Emirate over the loss of a distinguished son, Senator Mustapha prayed Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, grant him Al-jannah firdaus, and comfort his immediate and extended families.
He further urged the younger generation to emulate the late General’s exemplary life of discipline, humility, and selfless service to humanity.
