The Turaki of Ilorin and Senator representing Kwara Central Senatorial District, Mallam Saliu Mustapha, has expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of the 9th Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor AbdulGaniyu Ambali, OON, and renowned Islamic scholar, Imam Salahudeen Saadudeen Oniye.
Senator Mustapha, in a statement issued on Saturday by his media aide, Nasif Sholagberu, described Professor Ambali’s passing as a monumental loss to humanity, the academic community, and the Ilorin Emirate.
The lawmaker noted that Professor Ambali, who was serving as the Chairman of the Governing Council and Pro-Chancellor of Kwara State University at the time of his death, made immense contributions to the growth and development of the academic sector through decades of dedicated service.
He commiserated with the family of the late scholar, the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, the government and people of Kwara State, the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union, the Association of Ilorin Emirate Professors, the University of Ilorin community, the Kwara State University community, and friends and associates of the deceased.
Senator Mustapha prayed that the Almighty Allah would forgive the shortcomings of the late Professor Ambali and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
Similarly, the lawmaker expressed shock over the death of respected Islamic scholar, Imam Salahudeen Saadudeen Oniye, father of the first Makama of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Oniye.
He described the passing of the revered cleric as a great loss to the Ilorin Emirate and the wider Islamic community, particularly the Council of Ulamas, where the deceased was highly regarded for his contributions to Islamic scholarship and community development.
Senator Mustapha extended his heartfelt condolences to the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, the first Makama of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Oniye, members of the Oniye family, and the entire people of the Ilorin Emirate over the painful loss.
He prayed that the Almighty Allah would forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus, and give his family, loved ones, and the entire Ilorin Emirate the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
