The senator representing Kwara Central in the National Assembly, Saliu Mustapha, has urged Nigerians to shelve the proposed nationwide protest.
The lawmaker, who made this appeal in a statement on Saturday, urged Nigerians to give President Bola Tinubu’s administration more time to address the issues that have sparked the proposed hardship protests.
While acknowledging the fundamental right to peaceful protest, Senator Mustapha expressed concern over the frequency of such protests in Nigeria, which have often led to negative consequences. He noted instances where peaceful demonstrations were disrupted by criminal elements, resulting in the destruction of public and private property and exacerbating economic hardships.
“The Tinubu administration is working hard to revive the economy and improve the quality of life for all. It’s important to balance the right to protest with the need to safeguard public safety and economic stability. We must be cautious not to let criminal elements exploit legitimate grievances for their own destructive purposes.”
“I appeal to all Nigerians to support the government’s efforts and avoid actions that could destabilize our nation further. Let’s give the administration the chance to implement its plans for a better Nigeria,” he concluded.
